What We Want You to Know Before Your Summer Beach Session

Summer is one of our favorite seasons at Kelly & Craig Photography. The beaches are alive with families making memories, grandparents gathering generations together, and visitors returning to the shore for traditions that have often spanned decades.

As our calendar fills with beach sessions, artwork consultations, and new inquiries, we wanted to share a few things that help make your experience seamless from start to finish. Whether this is your first family beach session or you've photographed with us before, these insights will help you prepare for a beautiful and relaxed experience.

Communication During Peak Season

Summer is our busiest season, and our schedule quickly fills with sessions, planning appointments, artwork consultations, and gallery deliveries.

Because much of our time Thursday through Sunday is dedicated to serving families and creating photographs, communication may occasionally have a slower response time during those days.

Email is always our preferred method of communication. It allows us to keep conversations organized and ensures your questions remain in our queue until they are answered. While we do our best to monitor text messages and social media direct messages, they can occasionally get buried in the pace of a busy summer season.

And if you're someone who prefers a conversation, we always appreciate a phone call. We genuinely enjoy getting to know the families we photograph.

Every Summer Session Includes a Complimentary Rain Date

One of the most common questions we receive concerns weather.

The reality is that coastal weather can change quickly, and beautiful beach portraits require beautiful light. To ensure the best possible experience, every summer beach session includes a complimentary rain date that is reserved for the following day.

This built-in flexibility allows us to confidently navigate weather forecasts while protecting your investment and experience.

While we have an excellent track record of accommodating waitlisted families when schedules shift, we always recommend booking early—especially if your session involves visiting family members, multiple generations, or a weekend date. The most sought-after dates are often reserved months in advance.

Choosing the Right Beach Matters

One thing many families don't realize is that not every beach photographs the same way.

Every Kelly & Craig Photography session begins at the entrance to the selected beach path. This gives everyone an opportunity to ease into the experience, allows us to connect before photographing, and provides beautiful dune and beach grass backdrops that add variety to your gallery.

When recommending a beach location, we carefully consider:

  • Crowd levels

  • Sun position and lighting

  • Accessibility needs

  • Family dynamics

  • Parking and convenience

  • Seasonal conditions

Our goal is always to choose a location that allows your family to relax while creating the most beautiful imagery possible.

Our Philosophy on Beach Props

We love a thoughtfully selected prop, but we believe less is often more.

Our approach is centered on creating photographs that feel authentic, timeless, and true to your family's story rather than relying on trends or staged setups that may feel dated a few years from now.

Many of the props we use have actually been custom built in our workshop. Whether it's a beach tent, seating element, or carefully chosen accessory, everything is designed to feel natural within the coastal environment.

The goal is never to distract from your family. Instead, our props help create a setting that feels lived-in, relaxed, and genuinely connected to the shore lifestyle we all love.

Little Ones Are Our Specialty

Parents often worry about how their children will behave during a session.

The truth is, children don't need to perform to create beautiful photographs.

Years of experience photographing families have taught us how to keep little ones engaged while helping parents feel comfortable and relaxed. We understand childhood behavior, short attention spans, and the importance of allowing children space to be themselves.

Rather than forcing perfect poses, we create opportunities for genuine interaction.

Many of our favorite photographs happen near the end of a session, when everyone is comfortable, shoes are off, and children are splashing at the water's edge. Sandy toes, playful laughter, and spontaneous moments often become the images families treasure most.

Our Editing Process and Gallery Delivery

During peak summer season, gallery delivery is typically completed within two to three weeks.

Every image receives individual attention during our editing process. We carefully refine each photograph while preserving the authenticity of the moment.

From flyaway hairs and bruised knees to minor distractions in the background or the occasional head swap, we take pride in ensuring every image receives the attention it deserves.

This thoughtful approach is one of the reasons our clients return year after year. We believe your photographs are more than digital files—they are future heirlooms that deserve care and craftsmanship.

If you have a specific deadline or need expedited delivery, simply let us know when booking. Whenever possible, we are happy to discuss options that fit your timeline.

Planning Your Summer Session

If you're considering a family beach session this summer, now is the perfect time to reserve your date. This is especially important if you're coordinating visiting family members, planning a multi-generational portrait, or hoping for a weekend appointment.

Summer at the Jersey Shore moves quickly, and the best dates are often the first to go.

We are honored every time a family chooses us to document this season of life, and we look forward to creating something meaningful for you.

We can't wait to see you on the beach.
